Kelly’s design intent!
The ‘Church of the Light’ by Tadao Ando is the piece of architecture I am going to use for this project. I love his use of light and shadows to create space and the simple geometric forms used.

The interactive designer I am using is John Klima, he focuses on creating terrain via interaction. In one of his installations , Terrain 2003, the surface reacts to the light and shadow projected upon it. It is a large surface that can instantly contort and deform to shape landscapes based on 3D data sets.

I would like to take the idea from this that using triggers of light the space can deform and reshape into a new space/landscape. i will experiment with using only a change in light/shadow to give the impression of a changing, distorting space, and i will also experiment with the physical space changing.
the aesthetic I am going for will reflect tadao ando’s style of clean, simple geometric lines and shapes, limited material and limited colour but strong emphasis of light and dark contrast. it will be quite a dark space with light leading the way. interaction might occur as you walk through the space so it is constantly changing or maybe it will only happen when you are in the light.

I have chosen UN Studios Mobius House as my piece of Architecture due to the concept behind it allowing a rich and varied experience of space it also ties in nicely with ideas of time and parallel existence, things that i believe give UT it’s depth as a gaming engine.

As my interactive artist i have chosen Alex Davies. His work in Dislocation mixes real and virtual to place the participant in two minds as to what is real and what is not forcing them to second guess what they percieve. The participant is manipulated through image and sound forcing them to focus other senses to confirm what they are experiencing. Also Swarm,
“Swarm presents individuals with an evolving audio visual environment in which the audience themselves are drawn in as fragments in an ever changing mediascape.
The work focuses on the dynamics of the live surrounding environment as a basis for subsequent acquisition and manipulation of data. Individuals are tracked as they move within the space and subsequently sucked into the image plane.
The behaviour of the ever increasing database of phantoms shifts from swarms of activity to lingering solitary movements. Sounds swell and recede in unison with the ebb and flow of the imagescape. Although individuals only inhabit the physical space for a transient period, their presence echo’s temporally as they re-appear in the environment as neurotic shifting fragments in space.”

I am not sure yet as to how i might manipulate the form of the building through interaction. maybe recording one view in the house and playing it back in another region? don’t know if this is possible Any help?

OBJECT:
The Church on Water developed through the hands of M.H with the inspiration of Tamiko Thiel.
PROCESS:
This Project will transform Tadao Ando’s Church on Water, keeping the simplicity elements of the Ando like building block. But building up these blocks in a world of water, a user will move through the space carried by water currents. Meaning that everything around the user at any point in time will be moving in a certain direction, (“The current directionâ€) making it uncomfortable for the user to move in any other direction. This scheme will also put the user through building block obstacles and water obstacles of variable types (light/dark, white/bubbly, wavy/calm, tropical, icy/cold, choppy, rips and river currents) to lead them into various different blocky water worlds.
I will manipulate this space using some of the techniques, ideas and ways used by Tamiko Thiel, a designer part of the upgrade Munich team. Some of her works are The Travels of Mariko Horo (virtual reality), Virtuelle Mauer (reconstructing the virtual wall), Secret Movements (video performance installation), Geometries of Power (multi-user virtual reality image space), Beyond Manzanar (virtual reality installation), The Totem Project (video/digital images), Connection Machine (parallel super-computer), Beauty and the Beast (found object installation). Which include these techniques, ideas, and practices, travels through a virtual world in the search of navigation, climbing, conquering, following and being the virtual wall (hence reconstructing the virtual wall). Also movement in total translucency and outside a users vision zone, “the world not visibleâ€. Furthermore a play on shapes, the power of shapes on a virtual user, the imprisonment of user being lead without control, a visit to the world of death ritual in a digital form, the virtual connection to a variety of worlds and a virtual celebration of the beauty and unattractiveness in shapes of all sorts.

“My idea is basically to present the information on this guitar on the website. I liked the way Rossi made his drawings; colourful, sketchy and expressive and those are the exact qualities I’d like to have my final product”

Chelsey Lehl – Design Intent
Object -Apple iPod
Precedent – Gordon Matta-Clark
With this project I intend to explore the worlds leading portable media player. Through the unique navigation of this device I will express the following capabilities; file format storage (such as .JEPG, .BMP, .PED, .PNG, .Gif, etc.) portability in semblance of size, and the overall success of Apples design concepts and expressions. I will also demonstrate how iPod paired with iTunes, has taken control of the digital music market.

The multi plug is the pack horse of electrical devices. On its back we load a multitude of electrical devices ranging from lamps to cell phones to industrial power tools. With out the multi plug this computer and probably yours, wouldn’t have the power required for even the simplest task.
I will look at how the multi plug is used. The devices it powers. How it influences our environment, changing the layout of our lounges and bedrooms.
